AMEC Awards calling for nominations

Nominations for the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) Prospector Award, AMEC Media Awards and AMEC Environment Award are being called for by the Association’s chief executive officer, Simon Bennison.

The prestigious AMEC Prospector Award, which is given to the individual(s) who made the most outstanding mineral deposit discovery within recent years, is made in recognition of the discovery itself, as well as the individual(s) that discovered it, rather than the company.

The AMEC Prospector Award was first presented in 1993 to Mark Creasy for the Bronzewing gold discovery in Western Australia.

In 2014 this award was presented to Allan Kelly and Heath Hellewell for the Wilber Lode and Andy Well Gold Project.

“The AMEC Prospector Award is highly regarded and recognises the individuals who have made the industry the success it is today,” Mr Bennison said.

The AMEC Environment Award was first presented in 2014 and reflects the increasing importance of managing environmental impacts of mineral mining and exploration projects. It is made to a company that goes above and beyond in their management of environmental impacts or is developing innovative methods to achieve better long term environmental outcomes.

Now in its 26th year, the AMEC Media Awards recognise excellence in journalism covering the Australian mineral exploration and mining industry. The awards include the AMEC Print Media Award and the AMEC Online/Digital Media Award.

The AMEC Prospector, Environment and Media Awards will be presented at the AMEC Awards and Mining Hall of Fame Inductee Dinner on Wednesday 24 June 2015. The dinner will be held at the Crown Perth and will follow the AMEC Convention on 23 and 24 June.

“AMEC has partnered with the Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame again in 2015 to show our support and recognition of those who have contributed to the mineral mining industry,” Mr Bennison said.

“As well as the AMEC Awards, the Mining Hall of Fame Inductees will also be presented at this very special industry event.”
