Environment approval for Bauxite Hills Mine

Metro Mining has received final Commonwealth Government environment approval for the Bauxite Hills Mine north of Weipa.

The Commonwealth Government has approved the Bauxite Hills Project component of the re-named Bauxite Hills Mine which now incorporates the previous Skardon River Bauxite Project.

Both Commonwealth and State environmental approvals for Bauxite Hills Mine have now been secured Metro Managing Director Simon Finnis said final approval was the culmination of an extensive environmental assessment and community consultation process.

“Achieving this milestone within only 2 years is a credit to the hard work and expertise of the Metro team and demonstrates the strong support Metro secured from all levels of local, state and federal government stakeholders,” Mr Finnis said.

“Metro can continue to rapidly progress its mine development and construction plans,” Mr Finnis said.

The latest approval satisfies a key condition of recently secured debt financing package and allows production of up to 10Mtpa The Metro Board will soon consider approval for full project development of the Bauxite Hills Mine.
