Longreach

LongreachFor a dinky-di camping weekend, roll up your swag and head bush! In Longreach you can ditch the tent and camp under the stars like the bushmen and drovers of yesteryear. Chance of showers – slim.

Longreach is the land of legends and home to the history that formed our nation. A camping trip to Longreach means you and the kids can soak up all that heritage while experiencing some of what the pioneers went through living off the land.

There are a number of free campgrounds and holiday parks around Longreach and the town itself has a great range of things to see and do.

There’s the Stockman’s Hall of Fame, river cruises of the Thompson River and the Qantas museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the beginnings of an iconic Australian company. You can also step aboard a Cobb and Co coach for a tour of the streets of Longreach ending with a ‘Gallop through the Scrub’.

Longreach also boasts an awesome collection of pubs where you’ll be served steaks the size of your head that melt like butter in your mouth. Forget Breaky Creek Hotel, if you want a real steak, head to Longreach.

This is western Queensland so best to visit Longreach during the cooler months when there’s less chance of flooding, heat exhaustion and sunstroke.

Access: All vehicles
Best time of year: The cooler months, May – October
