Adani Ports CEO says workers from Emerald favoured for Carmichael mine

Carmichael coal projectThere may be more work for locals at Adani’s massive Carmichael coal mine than previously thought with the company’s CEO suggesting workers from Emerald could be in luck.

Sandeep Mehta, the CEO of  Adani Ports told a gathering at the Townsville Bulletin Business Breakfast last week that the company was committed to the project and to sourcing locally where possible.

“As part of our Local Procurement Policy and an Australian Industry Participation Plan, Adani Mining will maximise Australian participation in its project by sourcing, where possible, from regional, Queensland and Australian businesses,” Mr Mehta said.

“You could expect that workers from the Emerald region will be favoured for work opportunities given the town’s close proximity to the mine.”

The $16.5 billion project, located 160 kilometres north-west of Clermont,  is expected to generate an estimated 2475 construction jobs and a further 3920 jobs during the operations phase.
