A facilities management company has been awarded a contract at part of a $2.6 billion metal project in Far North Queensland, creating dozens of jobs.

Sodexo recently won the integrated services contract for Rio Tinto’s Amrun Bauxite Project, 40km south of Weipa.

QMEB has learnt the deal worth $22 million involves supplying camp management services to the project. A letter of intent, which was recently signed between Rio and Sodexo, reveals the supplier will not only provide integrated facilities management services at mine sites in Weipa but also the Gove in the Northern Territory.

Some 50 jobs will be created for the agreement’s two-year term, including an Indigenous employment target of 20 per cent.

None of the jobs have been advertised yet, but they will appear on Sodexo’s jobs list: sodexocareers.nga.net.au/cp/index.cfm?lid=58243760001&CurATC=EXT&CurBID=62AFB35D-9273-4A11-8DCC-9DB401354197

“Facilities management will be critical to the ongoing success of Amrun operations. We are very pleased to work with Sodexo to provide the safest and most comfortable environment for our people living and working onsite,” Amrun project general manager Marcia Hanrahan says.

“Sodexo is committed to achieving our Indigenous employment targets and will also work closely with local businesses to identify associated subcontracting opportunities.”

Sodexo praised the tender.

“This contract award signals Sodexo’s success and commitment in continuing to deliver high quality facility management solutions at the right cost, safely and in collaboration with local communities,” Sodexo mining Asia Pacific CEO Paul Bean says.

“Additionally the Amrun contract presents us with an exciting opportunity to significantly increase employment, training and business development for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the region.”
