A Supervisor has been charged with drug offences by Roma police in connection with the death of a resources worker on the Australia Pacific LNG project in south west Queensland last week.
According to Surat Basin.com, police arrested a 33 year old Sunshine Coast man last Friday morning after finding a quantity of drugs in the man’s possession.
Speaking to Surat Basin.com, Detective Sergeant James Steginga said, “Inquiries related to that death led police to locate the drug offences,” Det Sgt Steginga said.
“He was a supervisor of the deceased.”
The man was charged with possession and supply of a dangerous drug, after five grams of cannabis were uncovered.
“Drugs were located and further information was obtained which led to the further charge of supply,” Det Sgt Steginga said.
Both the Supervisor and the deceased man were contractors with Ostwald Bros, and were working on the Australia Pacific LNG Project (APLNG). The Supervisor has since resigned his position with the company.
The deceased Koongal man was found in his room at a mining camp associated with an APLNG construction project at Eurombah Creek, north of Roma, on the morning of 12 September, after failing to attend a morning meeting.
At the time of the incident, Ostwald Bros released a statement confirming the company was working with ambulance and police services on site to determine the circumstances of the employee’s death.
“The company has offered counselling support and assistance to the deceased’s family as well as all their employees and will continue to make that support available as needed,” the statement said.
