An independent metal producer is proceeding with its proposed mining project in Western Australia’s Mid-West worth more than $3 million, potentially creating thousands of jobs.
Mount Gibson Iron has commenced development of its Iron Hill Iron Ore Mine at the Mt Gibson Ranges, 270km southeast of Geraldton.
The project involves mining 5-7 million tonnes of hematite ore at the Iron Hill Deposits, which are 3km south of approved mine operations at the Mt Gibson Ranges, and contain an estimated value of $370 million.
The two-mine-pit operation will use standard open-pit mining methods, including drilling, blasting and excavation.
Mine infrastructure is expected to include:
- rehabilitation stockpiles (vegetation, topsoil and subsoil for post-mining rehabilitation)
- internal mine roads
- water storage dams
- administration facilities
- fuel storage
- workshop
- maintenance facilities
