Kagara previously developed West 45 back in 2011, and built a 600-metre decline to the top of the mine as well as the first level into the deposit. Some 3000 tonnes of development ore was mined and processed through the Thalanga Mill before the mine was placed on care and maintenance in 2012. The decline was partially flooded, and power and ventilation services were stripped-out of the mine during the administration period.

“The award of the underground mining contract for West 45 is a key step on the critical path to the restart of production at the Thalanga Zinc Project in 2H CY2017,” Red River’s managing director Mel Palancian says.

“We are pleased to have awarded the West 45 underground mining contract to Pybar. Red River ran a competitive contract process, and we look forward to working with Pybar as we restart development and mining operations at West 45”.
