A multinational resources company will give paid jobs and training to inexperienced jobseekers with the right attitude in North Queensland.

BHP recently invited applications for heavy diesel maintenance trainees and apprentices at its Mackay FutureFit Academy.

Maintenance trainees will commence a 12-month program and receive a Certificate II in engineering production technology on completion. Apprentices will undertake up to 2.5 years of training and receive a full trade Certificate III if successful.

They will also taught how to maintain dozers, graders, loaders, excavators, dump trucks and more.

Rosters will be eight days on four days off, spanning mornings, afternoons and evenings. QMEB previously revealed trainees must be available to attend four day shifts (6am to 2:30pm) then a further four afternoon and evening shifts (2:30pm to 11pm).

A competitive trainee salary, up to six weeks’ paid leave, and scheduled mid- and Christmas-breaks will be offered. No company paid accommodation or transport will be provided until successful completion.

Graduates will ultimately be deployed to various mine sites where permanent positions, “steady” income and camp accommodation will be offered. They could each earn in excess of $100,000 a year plus a short-term incentive.
