A mining services company will keep producing coal for many years to come in Central Queensland’s Isaac region.

Thiess Australia recently secured an extended mining services contract at BHP Mitsubishi Alliance’s (BMA’s) Peak Downs Coal Mine in Winchester, 210km southwest of Mackay.

The contractor will continue to support BMA’s production requirements, and both operate and maintain equipment to move overburden for the next five years. QMEB can reveal the deal takes effect in July 2022 and is worth more than $700 million.

Thiess has advertised the following permanent, full-time roles based at the mine site:

  • production operators (multiple positions)
  • heavy diesel fitters (multiple)
  • auto electricians (multiple)
  • servicepersons (multiple)
  • maintenance planner.

The following equipment requires operators:

  • CAT 797 and 789 trucks
  • Liebherr excavators
  • water carts
  • graders
  • dozers.

Click here to apply. Successful applicants will receive “genuine” training, a $10,000 sign-on bonus, an extra $5000 bonus if they refer a friend and he or she also secures work for the same business. Referred friends must pass the six-month probation period before the referrer receives the $5000 bonus.

These roles require working 12.5-hour shifts on a roster of either seven on seven off, or eight on six off. Full camp facilities, meals, living out of camp allowance ($130 per week), salary continuance insurance, discounted Medibank private health insurance, salary sacrificed flights and other employee benefits are available. Buses to the camp accommodation are provided from Mackay and Townsville.

There is also potential to up skill and learn how to use autonomous drills and dozers. Other terms and conditions apply.

“We are committed to driving long-term economic value through ongoing community engagement, local jobs and regional supply opportunities,” Thiess executive general manager for Australia Shaun Newberry said in a public statement.
