An integrated service provider has won a major tender for a coal mine in Central Queensland.

Downer EDI recently secured the pre-strip overburden removal contract for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance’s (BMA’s) Goonyella Riverside Coal Mine, 203km southwest of Mackay.

The agreement involves using Downer’s existing capital equipment to provide the agreed mining and related services for a two-year term with potential to extend the contract for another three years. The contract replaces a previous three-year tender that expired on September 30. QMEB can reveal the latest deal is worth about $200 million.

Hiring now

Downer is currently hiring production operators, heavy diesel fitters and an experienced serviceperson.

The company is offering a long-term contract with a choice of either four days on and four days off, five days on and four days off, or alternatively five days on and five days off. Camp accommodation, meals, bus transport, leave entitlements, superannuation and salary sacrificing of flights will be offered to successful applicants.
