Nominations open to recognise exceptional Queensland exporters

Queensland exporters are being encouraged to apply for the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards, recognising the success and innovation of local businesses on the international stage.

Launching the awards in Brisbane, Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Curtis Pitt said that acknowledging the tremendous effort made by local exporters was an important part of the Palaszczuk Government’s ongoing support for business.

“These awards – now in their 28th year – not only honour our export champions but also highlight the depth and strength of our export culture here in Queensland,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to helping existing Queensland exporters tap into new international markets and giving potential exporters the tools and assistance necessary to access overseas markets.

“And one great way to do that is to publicise our export successes.

“Whether your company is large or small, by winning an export award, you gain the opportunity to significantly raise your company’s profile, gain valuable business networking opportunities, and be honoured for your hard work among the who’s who of the Queensland international trade community.

“To submit a winning application, companies can make use of a special application assistance program offered by the Export Council of Australia.

“This is a free service teaming up university students in international business with companies to help develop the written aspect of the application.”

Mr Pitt said this year’s awards included a new category to reflect the changing nature of Queensland’s exports.

“The new Queensland Defence Industry Award will recognise outstanding export achievement in designing, manufacturing and adapting world-class products or services to meet military requirements globally,” Mr Pitt said.

“This new award means there are now four state-based awards and 12 industry awards, which will be announced at the awards ceremony in Brisbane on 19 October.”

Today’s Export Awards Launch follows the Treasurer’s unveiling of the new Advancing Trade and Investment Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy 2017-2022 in April.

“The strategy allocates $35 million over five years to deliver 22 initiatives and aims to make Queensland the most innovative and dynamic trading economy in the nation,” Mr Pitt said.

State industry award winners then compete at a national level for the Australian Export Awards announced in November.
