The expansion of the Cameby Downs coal mine, near Chinchilla, has hit an operational road block, with a local grazier taking the mine’s owners to court.
Chinese mining giant Yancoal will face local grazier David McCabe in the Land and Environment Court after the company was met with a counter-submission over the purchase of McCabe’s 517 acre block.
Yancoal had reportedly wanted to settle the matter out of court, however Mr McCabe told Surat Basin.com.au that he wanted the public to have full access to the details of the issue.
McCabe said he had every intention of keeping his property.
“I want to keep the deeds,” he said.
“We have got to find out how much they will be mining, and whether we will even be able to come back.” McCabe told Surat Basin.com.
