Cradled in the Valley of the Owls in the Scenic Rim of southern Queensland, Canungra is a scenic little village a little over an hour from Brisbane.
On the outskirts of town is the picturesque Canungra Showgrounds located on a bend of Canungra Creek which is open year round to campers. It’s a great place to take the kids with plenty of spots along the crystal clear creek for a swim, lots of shade under very tall trees and hot showers are available.
One of the great things about this top spot is that they allow you to have open fires. They also don’t mind if you forage for wood in the bush and pets are welcome as long as you do the right thing and keep them under control.
From the camp grounds you can walk into town and enjoy great tucker at the historic pub and stock up on supplies.
The area abounds in picture-postcard walks and nature trails through the surrounding rainforests and eucalypt forest. Canungra is also the gateway to Mount Tamborine, Lamington National Park, O’Reilly’s Guesthouse and Binna Burra.
