Contract extended at underground mine in Illawarra

South32

A mining services company has been awarded a contract extension at a coal mine in New South Wales’ Illawarra region.

Delta SBD recently received an extension for its existing contract with South 32 for its Appin Underground Coal Mine, 25km northwest of Wollongong.

Delta praised the increase in its workbook due to a combination of retained contracted works and new business. The recent jump in coal prices have also helped improve the company’s bottom-line. The work means existing staff will be kept on and more machinery deployed.

“We are pleased with the progress that the company has made during 2016, and these contracts are an important validation of our offering to producers,” Delta CEO Neville McAlary says.

“Our outlook for the business is positive as we focus on offering greater value to mine owners through solutions-based services that underpin repeat work. While large producers are reluctant to bring on capital projects in the absence of greater certainty around the coal price outlook, they are seeking low-cost and low exposure opportunities for production increases.”
