A new report released by Qld’s Department of Natural Resources and Mines suggests that inexperienced workers in the petroleum and gas sector may be contributing to a high incidence of safety breaches.
The report states that from 1 July 2013 to 24 November 2013, 63 safety incidents were reported to the P&G (petroleum and gas) Inspectorate involving upstream categories.
They were:
- drilling rigs 59%
- wells 22%
- petroleum facilities 13%
- pipelines 6%.
“Recent incidents and serious injuries might be the result of a shortage of experienced rig workers. This can be improved by suitable training, ensuring systems and processes are current and identify hazards.” The report said.
