Adani’s Carmichael coal project is now taking expressions of interest from people wanting to work on construction of the new mine, earmarked for 160km north west of Clermont.
According to The Daily Mercury, Adani’s spokesperson, Gareth Quinn, said the company planned to recruit the first round of workers next year.
“We encourage people to submit their details online now,” he said.
“A variety of manufacturing and construction jobs including steel fabrication, boiler-making, earth moving etc will be on offer.”
While Mr Quinn would not comment on the company’s FIFO plans, he said Adani was committed to the Mackay and Whitsunday region.
“We favour applications from local people,” he said.
“As part of our local procurement policy, we will also maximise Australian participation by sourcing, where possible, from regional Queensland and Australian businesses.”
Mr Quinn said it was part of the company’s social responsibility.
“We recognise the need to make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate,” he said.
“We engage with government, communities, landholders, business groups and other interest groups during all phases of our operations.”
“The project has many components including coal exploration, coal mining, rail construction and operations, construction of infrastructure, port expansion and operations,” he said.
“As you can see we will need a wide range of skills.”
