A mining executive urged his workers to return to duty after they shared in one of the nation’s top lottery prizes.

About 20 mine employees recently became first-division winners in the $160 million Powerball jackpot. They all had the winning numbers 10, 4, 12, 18, 2, 34, 7 plus an extra 7 Powerball through a syndicated ticket purchased on 27 October 2022.

Each gambler paid $100 to a Boulder newsagency, and received $2.65M out of the $53.33M first-division prize. The group called “We Outta Here” later displayed their winning entries on a pin board for everyone to see.

After discovering this good fortune their group manager pleaded with them to return to night-shift.

“They called me up last night to tell me they won the lotto and I did not believe them. ‘It is impossible, I do not believe you – you are joking,'” Chris Wood said according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“I told them I will run after them and steal their ticket if they do not come back.”

QMEB understands at least one of the winners will keep working for the Western Australian mining contractor.

“This was a one-off because it was a big draw … it was a spur of the moment thing. I could not believe it, I checked the ticket about 10 times,” winner Peter, 54, said according to News Limited.

“It is life-changing for all of us.”
