They say everyone has a purpose and the Phenomenon was built for one purpose only: to break the world’s propelled speedboat record of 354.86 mph. It hasn’t done it yet but watch this space…
Phenomenon is 17.06 metres long and 3.96 metres wide, with 4 turbine engines and 12,000 horsepower. It’s made from a composite consisting of carbon fibre and e-glass over airex foam cores. The cockpit is a separate, air-conditioned high strength composite capsule with extensive all-carbon fibre window mullions and frames. The cockpit seats are custom fibre NASCAR racing seats. Because NASCAR seats go faster.
[pullQuote]“Phenomenon was created by engineers from Boeing, former US Naval architects, and world class professional power boat builders.”[/pullQuote]Some elements that were added for speed and safety include the Canard wing, which is often used on airplanes, and a carved out hull to help shift the air based on the condition and how the boat is riding on the water.
Phenomenon was created by engineers from Boeing, former US Naval architects, and world class professional power boat builders. With that kind of pedigree it would want to go fast. Very very fast indeed.
Will set you back: More than is decent. It’s a one-off.
Top speed: Estimated at 450 kph, plus
Great for: Getting somewhere in a hurry.
