Big Boys Toys: Onewheel

one-wheel

While we all sit around the crib room moaning about how the tanilising promises made to us by the producers of Back to the Future I, II and III are yet to deliver, there’s one company out there doing something about it.

Onewheel is a self-balancing, one-wheeled, motorised skateboard that is actually nothing like Michael J Fox’s hoverboard from (gasp!) 1989, but it looks awesome and it’s the closest thing we’ve got, so we’re running with it.

[pullQuote]“Thanks to its self balancing technology your ingrained laziness can continue unfettered by things like effort – just lean forward to speed up, lean back to slow down. Sloth on!”[/pullQuote]

And if you’re the kind of person who’s bone-deep laziness has resulted in university professors asking you take part in behavioural science projects, then you’re gonna love the one wheel! Thanks to its self-balancing technology your ingrained laziness can continue unfettered by things like effort – just lean forward to speed up, lean back to slow down. Sloth on!

If you don’t believe us, as to the awesomeness of the Onewheel, maybe you’ll believe some guy called Joe whose unintentionally hilarious testimonial is on Onewheel’s website:

“First it’s like, ok I lean forward to go. Then it’s like oh, ah, I can lean to steer. Then it’s like wwwhhheeee!!!” — Joe W.

Will set you back: $AUD 1,620
Top Speed: Up to 19kph. Woah.
It’s nothing like: Michael J Fox’s hoverboard from Back to the Future but we try not to judge.
Why?: Because four wheels is soooo 2013.
