A coal operation is on the hunt for hundreds of Queensland jobseekers who want to work directly for the proponent in Central Queensland’s Isaac region.

Anglo American recently completed a labour hire review, and decided to offer up to 200 new permanent jobs at the Grosvenor Underground Coal Mine near Moranbah โ€“198km southwest of Mackay.

The employer promised to accelerate any application from an estimated 320 labour hire employees. Current workers still have to compete against external applicants for these longwall, maintenance, outbye, development and supervisory roles.

“Importantly, our existing Grosvenor workforce members who apply for the roles will be fast-tracked directly through to interview stage,” Anglo underground operations executive head Matt Cooper said in a public statement.

“Our focus remains on our people, and we believe our new Grosvenor mine employment model will support career development and operational stability โ€“ helping to underpin the safe and successful operation of the mine going forward.”

Recruitment will be split into two phases. The first phase will concentrate on underground activities, while the second focuses on surface activities and other mine areas.

The following full-time positions have been advertised:

  • environmental officers (multiple positions)
  • developmental mechanical coordinator
  • human resources administrator
  • business improvement analyst
  • technical services associate
  • ventilation coordinator
  • mine deputy.

Cooper also invited locals, who are keen to work in the industry, to consider the Aquila Coal Mine in Bundoora, 302km northwest of Rockhampton.

“We have been progressively increasing the number of permanent roles across all of our steelmaking coal operations in Queensland including at [the] Aquila mine, which has also announced the creation of around 70 new permanent positions,” he said.

“Across our other mines we have majority permanent, operational employee workforces and we encourage our people to live locally โ€“ including through rental subsidy programs and other initiatives.”
