A construction and maintenance company has won the latest tender package at a new development in North Queensland’s Etheridge Shire.
A subsidiary of CIMIC Group recently secured an electrical construction contract for the $610 million Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Einasleigh, 382km west of Cairns.
UGL is tasked with designing, building and installing Powerlink Queensland’s 186km high-voltage transmission line, between the former Kidston Gold Mine site and Mount Fox.
The successful bidder will also construct a new 275 kilovolt switching station at Mount Fox.
400+ jobs
QMEB can reveal the deal is worth about $150M, and will create 400 jobs plus a further 500 positions across the rest of the 250 megawatt project.
“This project will deliver a transmission line and switching station to connect the Kidston Clean Energy Hub to the national electricity grid – a vital step in the provision of power to Queenslanders and businesses,” CIMIC Group executive chairman and CEO Juan Santamaria said in a public statement.
