Downer awarded $100 million mining contract with BHP

Downer EDI Ltd announced it has been awarded a contract with BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance for the provision of mining services at the Blackwater coal mine in Central Queensland.

The two-year contract will commence in July, and is valued at about $100 million, with an additional one year option.

Downer is the incumbent pre-strip contractor at Blackwater with the existing term due to expire on June 30, 2015.

Downer CEO Grant Fenn said he was pleased to renew the contract for a further two years and continue working with BMA at the Blackwater coal mine.

“Downer has a strong track record of providing mining services to BMA and helping it to drive efficiencies across its operations,” Mr Fenn said.

“We look forward to extending our working relationship and continuing to deliver efficient solutions for the Blackwater coal mine.”
