Employer lures Queenslanders to ‘beautiful rural’ coal mine

Jobseekers are invited to join a captivating state-run mining operation in Queensland’s South Burnett region.

Multiple full-time production operator and Coal Handling and Preparation Plant operator/maintainer positions were recently advertised at Stanwell Corporation’s Meandu Coal Mine, 155km southwest of Gympie.

Job applicants can expect to operate the following machinery:

  • Komatsu 830E haul trucks
  • Hitachi EH5000 haul trucks
  • Bucyrus BE1370W draglines
  • Hitachi EX8000, EX5500 and EX3600 excavators.

The advertiser suggested the area was so spectacular that candidates would want to permanently relocate there.

“We offer [a] beautiful rural location only a few hours from Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast,” BUMA Australia said on the Seek website.

“This is a residential position, therefore, camp or accommodation facilities are not is provided … you will be responsible for your own accommodation.”

Click here to apply. Successful jobseekers will be offered 12-hour day and night shifts on a roster of five on four off, four on five off and five on five off. The final shift lasts 10 hours to help travel home within fatigue hours.

Weekly pay with a 3 per cent annual increase, discounted health cover, discounted car rentals, salary sacrifice options and novated leases are also available.

“There are several positions available so we may consider various experience levels,” BUMA said.
