Methane found in Maranoa water supply

Methane has been found in the water supply of  Wallumbilla, east of Roma, an area that hosts coal seam gas wells.

The number two bore at Wallumbillawas taken offline three weeks ago when an air relief valve activated, indicating there was gas in the supply.

In a statement released by Maranoa Regional Council yesterday, Mayor Robert Loughnan said until the source of the gas could be determined and corrective action taken, Bore 2 would remain offline, with Wallumbilla’s water being sourced exclusively from Bore 1.

“There continues to be no impact to Wallumbilla residents’ water supply – we are ensuring that consistent quality water will continue to be available while Bore 2 is offline,” Cr Loughnan said.

The council says it is working with several agencies and companies, including the State Government’s CSG compliance division, to find out how the gas got into the bore.
