A mining services company has won contract extensions for two coal operations in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

A subsidiary of CIMIC Group recently secured more work at QCoal’s Sonoma Coal Mine and Byerwen Coal Mine, 93km southwest of Bowen and 140km west of Mackay respectively.

Successful tenderer Sedgman will continue to operate and maintain processing plants at both mines for another three years. QMEB can reveal the deal is worth a combined $166 million.

13 years of work

The contractor previously engineered, designed, constructed and commissioned of the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) at Sonoma in 2007. It has since continued to optimise and expand the facility.

It also engineered, procured, constructed and commissioned services for a train loadout facility and processing plant at Byerwen in 2017, and a CHPP duplication the following year.
