A new gas project, west of Dalby, could soon be on the cards with Carbon Energy announcing it has asked the government to begin the approvals process for their Blue Gum project.
If approved, the Blue Gum project will be developed on the Bloodwood Creek pilot site, where the company has completed first trials to commercialise its Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) keyseam technology.
In 2012, the Queensland Government appointed an Independent Scientific Panel (ISP) to assess UCG pilot trials in Queensland. The ISP recommended that decommissioning be demonstrated prior to commencement of commercial operations. Carbon Energy says they have completed all requirements of the ISP and have presented their findings to government in a submission.
The Queensland Government is now considering Carbon Energy’s submission and a positive decision would allow the Company to commence the processes required to develop the 25PJ per annum project.
