Queenslanders remember at Miners Memorial Day tomorrow

Tomorrow, the Queensland mining community will stop and spare a moment to remember those heroes in hard hats who have died in the mining industry.

The 2015 Miners Memorial Day service will be held tomorrow in Mount Morgan, and will shine a light on the most important aspect of mining – the safety and health of the men and women who work in Queensland mines.

Since 2008, the Queensland Government, industry and unions have come together to honour the memory of the more than 1500 people who have lost their lives in Queensland’s coal and metalliferous mines since mining began in the 19th century.

Every year on September 19, a service is held to mark the anniversary of the state’s worst mining disaster. On this day in 1921, 75 miners lost their lives in a gas explosion in a coal mine at Mount Mulligan in North Queensland.

Register your attendance through Eventbrite or contact Cara Gurnett on (07) 3199 8260 to RSVP.
