Businesses in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin area are being urged to contribute to a Business Case being developed for the Inland Rail project by Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE).
If it goes ahead, the Inland Rail Project will deliver a road-competitive freight rail line connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
With the favoured route of the project proposed to pass directly through the Toowoomba region, TSBE chief executive officer Shane Charles urges all businesses in the area who will benefit from the project going ahead to put pen to paper.
“The Inland Rail Project undoubtedly presents enormous opportunities to southern Queensland regions, particularly to Toowoomba and the Surat Basin, in terms of economic prosperity, job creation, market access and the list goes on,” Mr Charles said.
“And with the agricultural and resource sector set to massively benefit from the connectivity this rail line will bring, we can’t afford as a region for this project not to become a reality.
“To that end, if you are a business that is going to see significant benefits from the development of the proposed Inland Rail route, I strongly urge you to get in contact with TSBE and to submit an impact snapshot to help ensure this vital piece of infrastructure goes ahead.”
Submissions are due by Friday April 10, 2015, with those received by TSBE to be provided to the Inland Rail Programme team.
