Surat expo launch meets demand – The event prospectus for the highly anticipated 2012 Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo was officially released at a corporate launch in the APN boardroom in Toowoomba recently. The release of plans for the 2012 event were met with an overwhelming vote of confidence with over 60 per cent of sites now accounted for. Platinum Sponsor from the inaugural event in 2011, Easternwell, along with other key sponsors have been quick to re-sign for the expanded event in 2012.
Platinum Sponsor Easternwell have recently secured several well servicing contracts with Santos with a combined value of $102 million in which local communities are set to benefit through local employment and procurement of goods and services. It is expected the award of the Santos contract to Toowoomba based Easternwell will contribute more than $70 million to the Queensland economy over the next three years. Easternwell CEO Troy Campbell said ‘these contracts create job security for our employees which number over 1,000 people, and also supports Easternwell’s commitment to local communities through buying and employing locally wherever possible.’
There is no doubt that the Surat Basin is unmatched in diversity and opportunity, and to support this fact, in its first year the Surat Basin Expo broke all records and attracted visitors from around Australia and the world. It has quickly become the benchmark for this type of event and is already regarded within the industry as a market leader. Over 100 extra sites have been added for 2012 to cater for the demand for space from exhibitors.
Key findings from market research at the 2011 event included:
- 425 Exhibitors took part representing over 1,000 companies.
- 6,420 Delegates attended over the two days of the event.
- $6.1M injected into the local economy as a direct result of the event.
- $52M generated in sales at the event with that figure expected to grow to over $100M in the next 12 months.
- Of the 6,420 delegates, 1,800 attended specifically looking for job opportunities and/or a career change.
The event was designed to support the Queensland resources industry while providing an excellent environment for businesses to network, market and generate sales, leads and industry contacts. All who took part in 2011 agreed that it did that very effectively and was an overwhelming success for both visitors and exhibitors alike.
Leading specialist hire equipment suppliers and returning Gold Sponsors, Onsite Rentals, are a testament to the success of the Expo as they were quick to re-sign for 2012 with the aim of using the trade event to increase branding coverage across the Surat Basin region.
Exhibitor and the Farewell Function Sponsor of 2011, Exchange Track Services, found the Expo so successful they are returning as a Gold Sponsor for 2012. Exchange Track Services (ETS) are Australia’s leading specialist in the field of undercarriage manufacture, repair and refurbishment. Based out of Toowoomba, ETS is ideally placed serving the mining and resource industries throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, with their specialist provision of high quality undercarriage components and hardware.
Gold Sponsors of the 2011 event, Hutchinson Builders along with Silver Sponsors, Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE, and University of Southern QLD, will also return along with new Silver Sponsors, Careers in Gas.
Marketing of the 2012 Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo will build on the great success of the 2011 campaign by adding new marketing strategies that will further strengthen awareness and build a desire to attend this event within the target audience.
Marketing Manager for Australian Events, Paul Niehus said, “We’ll target the Central NSW to North Western Queensland areas of Australia where there are established mining and energy industries and we’ll be involved in major energy and mining reports through national media, as well as numerous energy and mining trade magazines, In-flight magazines along with local and national mainstream television, radio and print options.”
These strategies along with regular media releases, radio interviews and updates, social media and other opportunities are aimed at getting the right delegates to attend the event. In addition, the variety of products and services on show will present the event as a “must see” activity on the calendars of all key industry executives.
