Casing for CSG and CMM – Once considered to be just a hazard, Coal Seam Gas (CSG) and Coal Mine Methane (CMM) is now rapidly increasing as a major fuel source, here and globally. Coal seam gas, also referred to as coal bed Methane, is a form of natural gas and is found mainly in the form of Methane, absorbed into coal, retrievable when pressure on the seam is removed; usually by removing the water from the seam or through mining operations.
The dangers of this methane in coal mining operations has long been known, considered to be just a hazard and nuisance to mine operators. Recently, this form of natural gas has emerged as an energy source in its own right, undertaking steps to convert it to electricity or LNG instead of venting it or flaring the gas.

The addition of API 5CT casing further increases the options available from ECPS to suit every type of drill rig and operator. The onsite threading facility in Brisbane produces the industry recognised SFJ flush joint connection, on casing from 3-1/2” through to 10-3/4”. The SFJ connection was developed especially for the Coal Seam Gas industry as a premium connection, flush joint casing, widely used in smaller rigs for its strength and sealing properties.
