Cyclone Nathan Could Cross Near Cooktown Tomorrow

The latest update from the Bureau of Meteorology says that Tropical Cyclone Nathan could cross the far north Queensland coast in the Cooktown area as early as tomorrow (Thursday).

The Bureau has issued warnings for the far north Queensland coast between Lockhart River and Port Douglas saying damaging gale force winds  can be expected for communities in this area, including Cooktown and Hope Vale.

The cyclone is currently listed as a Category 2 but is forecast to slowly intensify to Category 3 by Thursday.

Communities of the North Tropical Coast, Tablelands and Peninsula districts are being told to expect heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding in parts.

The cyclone is  currently travelling west southwest at 15 kilometres per hour with wind gusts up to 130 kilometres per hour.
