Ground Breaking Mine Blasting Technology Takes out Premier’s Export Awards

‘Ground-breaking’ blasting technology used in mining and developed in Queensland has taken out a major award at the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards for 2014.

Blast Movement Technologies took out the Queensland Exporter of the Year category at the Awards that were announced at the weekend. – is a shining example of home-grown cutting edge technology.

Chief Executive of Queensland Resources Council (QRC) said the win reflects Queensland’s economic drive and diversity.

“The products of first-hand experience in the Queensland minerals and energy sector, Darren and Diane Thornton have parlayed their expertise and innovation into a global business with a focus on maximising mining yield through (literally) ground-breaking technology,” he said.

Blast Movement Technologies’ core business is a patented technology to measure the movement of rock during blasting. The company has achieved 50 percent sales growth year-on-year and its export revenues increased from $4.7m to $5.5m in 2013-14.

Mr Roche also congratulated other 2014 export award winners with links to the resources sector including Digga Australia, Cardno and Deswik Mining Consultants.

“Minerals and energy companies in Queensland spend almost $560 million every week with local goods and services providers, so the incentives for quality and innovation are very high,” he said.

“The icing on the cake for Queensland resources sector suppliers is that their clients are world class operators and contracts won in Queensland can open doors all over the world,” he said.
